Saturday 9th June saw 24 Clubs competing for the Barrian Cup. With Clubs from all over the South and some really big names the Competition was hard. The Judge was Margaret Salisbury FRPS, FIPF, MFIAP, MPAGB and she done a cracking job with good comments and her wonderful sense of humour. Our first round entry was ‘Heritage Coast at Dusk’ by Haydn Thomas DPAGB AFIAP this scored a good 18, great start. Round 2 and ‘Whooper Swan Landing on Ice’ by Linda Cowan CPAGB AFIAP scored a 16, more contrast needed Linda. Round 3 we bounced back with a 19 from Dave Edwards DPAGB EFIAP ‘Puma Walking Through Snow’ and by the end of round 3 we were in pole position. Round 4 and Denice took a bit of a battering from the Judge when her ‘ Juliana at the Steam Punk Festival’ scored 16, too much sepia Den. By this time we had dropped to joint 2nd with Barry CC, 1 point behind Gwynfa CC. Our final shot was ‘D Cartwright at the Brecon Jazz’ by Roy Edwards, but the Judge picked this up on a technical issue and scored it a very low 14, our hopes went up in flames. We eventually finished joint 9th, but only 4 points behind the winners Gwynfa CC (87 points). Not a great showing from us but, there we are. The winner of the Dave Cowdrey Trophy for the Best Landscape went to Brian Merry from Rhondda CC. Better luck next year guys.
Our next battle is on Wednesday night at Amman Valley. Lets see some more support from the members, you never know, you might enjoy it.
