Barrian Cup & Dave Cowdrey Trophy

Saturday 6th June saw 25 clubs contesting the Barrian Cup.  Each club had entered 5 prints, of which a maximum of 3 could be Landscapes or Seascapes. The Judge – Mr Grahame Hodgkiss ARPS,DPAGB,APAGB had the unenviable task of critiquing and scoring these prints, and also scoring the Land/Sea Scapes that were competing for the Dave Cowdrey Trophy, and what a marvellous job he done.  His comments were straight to the point with no waffle.

”It all hung on round 5,
and the atmosphere
could be cut with a knife”

Our opening print ‘Tree Birds’ by Terry Goss score the first 20 of the competition.  Round 2 and ‘Jenna by the River’ by Haydn Thomas followed on with another 20.  At the end of round 2 we were in first place.  Round 3 and ‘Covent Garden 2’ by Ben Clarkson scored a 16.  We were still in first place.  Round 4 and ‘Leg’ by Julian Brock only managed to pick up 13 pts. At the end of round 4 we were in second place by 1 point.  It all hung on round 5, and the atmosphere could be cut with a knife, ‘A Reflective Moment’ by Tony Shadrach scored 14 and with our closest rivals Gwynfa and Llanelli both scoring well we finished in 3rd place.

Next came the presentation for the Dave Cowdrey Trophy for best Landscpe/Seascape,  and the winner was our own Terry Goss with Tree Birds. Congratulations Terry, well done.

This goes to prove two things, we can compete with the best clubs in the area and secondly we need more strength in depth with our selections.  The latter can only be achieved by authors submitting their best work for selection.  The selection committee this year have given us our best season with regard Battle finishes.  Many thanks to all the selectors and the authors for submitting their entries.  Below is a table of the Clubs involved and their final positions.
