Last night (Thurs 5th March) 7 clubs pitted their images in a 7 way (one team didn’t partake) battle at The Rest, Rest Bay, Porthcawl. The judge Kevin Thomas FRPS started off by saying that there was to be no quarter given as all the images were meant to represent the best of the respective Club or Society, and so battle commenced. We started with a good solid 16 from Terry Goss and his “Blue-Tailed Damselfly”. Round 2 didn’t go so well with a poor 12 from my “Clockwork”, low, but not the lowest in that round. Round 3 and Dave Edwards got a good 18 with his Polar Bear and Cub and as the interval approached we were in fourth place with 46, 3 points behind the leaders Rhondda. After a superb buffet and cuppa we resumed battle. Our first image was “Going Home” by Haydn Thomas, and the judge loved it…..18pts scored. Round 5 and Julian Brocks portrait “Goth” received rave comments by Kevin Thomas and more importantly 19 points… we were on a roll. Our last image “Leaning Tower of Cardiff” by Arfon John had us sweating, during the evening the judge had marked down Photoshopped images, but he liked it and gave it 17. With four teams to go we were untouchable on 100pts. Close of play saw us 7 points clear of our nearest rival Bridgend. We had done it!! Congratulations all round to the Selectors and the Authors.
Our next battle is our own 6 way on the 24th March. Please come along and support us, bring friends and family. You are also asked to bring some food for our guests and, donations for the raffle.
