Last night (23rd March) five clubs, Abertawe, Amman Valley, Mumbles & West Cross, Trostre & Velindre and last years winners Port Talbot joined us at the Club to take part in our last home battle of the season. Each club was well represented and the Judge, Brian Coleman, was on time. Let battle commence. Our opening salvo was “Baby Elephant Bathing In River” by Dave Edwards which netted us 18 points, a good start. Round 2 and “Common Darter (Symetrum striolatum)” by Chairman Cliff gave us an acceptable 15. Our third round entry “Food On It’s Way” by Tony Shadrach scored 16 and put us in second place at half time with 49 points, one point behind Mumbles and West Cross. We then had a break for refreshments and the quantity and quality of the food was truly excellent. We re-started with “Jenna By The River” by Haydn Thomas scoring 16. Round five and it was my turn with “Otter (Lutra lutra)” another 16. This was it, last round and we were 1 point ahead of Mumbles & West Cross and Abertawe. Our final image “Sagittal” by that old veteran Arfon (call me the kiddie) John pulled a magnificent 20, one of only 2 awarded on the night. We had won with a score of 101, Six points clear of our nearest rivals (“it’s coming home, it’s coming home” I hear you sing) the trophy was back in our hallowed hall.
Many thanks to all the clubs for an exciting battle, I know some of you are struggling for members but you made the effort, well done. Thanks must also go to the Judge, Brian Coleman for a job well done, the kitchen staff, and all the members who supplied food and prizes for the raffle. Final positions are shown below.
