I do like it, but the trouble with all close up flashes is reflection on shiny surfaces. Apart from a very large soft box and off camera flash, I see no way out other than to shoot at an angle but then dof is compromised.

I know Peter. If that wasn't bad enough you have to get the shot in the first place, when much of the time the insects are moving, the leaves are moving and I'm moving too and that's if they don't fly away. Personally, I consider myself lucky when I capture something reasonably well, all the other stuff like flash reflections, shadows caused by the flash and even shadows from the sun on some days is part and parcel of this type of macro photography. I don't let it bother me any more

Absolute text book perfect shot of this critter Alan - the detail is fantastic. As you say, reflections and shadows have to be accepted.

Much appreciated Arfon, glad you liked the image.

Hi Alan. I'm not saying that the shot is not good, it is excellent and i do like it. All I am saying is it is a shame that many creatures reflect the flash and in some cases ruin the shot. Yours isn't in that category. Even text books suffer from flash reflection with certain bugs, it can't be helped. You are the bug hunter and I know how hard you work at it.

Thanks Peter, I understand what you mean and appreciated the compliment. :-)
