Competition Rules

  1. An entrant must be a Member of the Society.
  2. Entries may be home or trade processed.
  3. Unless otherwise stated a Member may make only ONE entry per section per competition.
  4. Each entrant must own the copyright on his/her entry.
  5. All Digital files should be correctly named. i.e Title,underscore, Photographers Name  (e.g Clockwork_Colin Kelly).
  6. All Digital files must be saved as jpeg. with colourspace set to sRGB.
  7. Each print should indicate the top on the back of the print.
  8. Digital projected images should not exceed 1400 pixels on the longest side for Landscape format and 1050 pixels on the longest side for Portrait format.
  9. Prints including mount, should not exceed 50cm x 40cm.
  10. All prints must be mounted unless otherwise stated.
  11. Work entered in a club competition may not be re-entered in the same format in future club competitions with the exception of Photograph of the Year (or DPI).
  12. Set subjects shall be chosen by the Committee and announced at the Annual Dinner.
  13. Society competitions have two sections:
    1. Prints (Colour and Monochrome). (ONE colour print and ONE mono print may be entered)
    2. Digital Projected Images. (One colour PI and One mono PI may be entered)
  14. “Colour” and “monochromatic” are defined as follows:
    1. Monochromatic….. See new FIAP/WPF Guidelines below.
    2. Colour…. All other images
  15. All Prints should be accompanied by a digital version for the Competition Secs. records.
  16. From 2014-15 season the Selectors will retain Prints they deem suitable for Selection for External Battles.  If the Photographer does not want his Print retained he must make this known to the Competition Sec.


  1. Internal competitions:
    • 1st 12 points
    • 2nd 8 points
    • 3rd 6 points
    • 4th 4 points
    • 5th 2 points
  2. External competitions:
    • Battles – each entrant who represents the Society shall receive 3 points per entry.
    • Additional points shall be given for the top three entries from the Society:
      • 1st 3 points
      • 2nd 2 points
      • 3rd 1 point

FIAP/WPS definition of monochrome print


  • A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey.
  • A black & white work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black & white category; such a work can be reproduced in black & white in the catalogue.


  • Black and white work modified by partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work to stand in the colour category.
  • All prints not conforming to the monochrome criteria will be classified as colour prints.

Society Definition of a ‘beginner’ for trophy competitions

A beginner is a member who has not:

  • Won any award for digital projected image or print within the Society.
  • Won Photographer of the Year.
  • Come runner up Photographer of the Year.
